Wise Wednesday featuring Liz Rick from Hydrant Church

Have you ever wondered how important the people you spend your time with are? Often we pick people to hang out with because they make us laugh or they like the same things as us. Maybe we have been through some stuff together or maybe we just have known them all our lives. Sometimes we wonder though why we haven’t gotten very far, why we seem stuck in the same old place, in the same old problems. That’s when we realize the people around us are important. There is a famous quote that says “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.”

Scripture talks about what it means to be a good friend. In Luke 5 we see a man who has become paralyzed, maybe he was born that way, or maybe it was recent, we aren’t sure, but what we do know is he was unable to move his body. During this time if you were unable to move, you were unable to work and you were a burden to those around you. Often these types of people would be left to their own devices, left to beg or steal to get what they needed. But not this guy. No, he had friends. Great friends.

Luke 5:17-39 tells the story of how these friends cared so deeply for this man that they devised a plan. There was no room in the place where Jesus was teaching, people had come from all over to see him and be healed. The friends knew if they could just get the paralyzed man in the room with Jesus, He would heal him. So they came up with an idea. “Let’s lower him in through the roof!” And that’s just what they did.

Do the people who you surround yourself with love you so much, and care about your healing so much that they would stop at nothing to get you what you need? Do the people you surround yourself with want to see you run towards your future?

“Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future”

It may be time to take a look at who you surround yourself with and find the people who will champion you, support you, and stop at nothing to see you win! And be that friend in return!
