A Brush With Kindness: A Roof Overhead
For the last 20 years Lynne Cox has been watching her roof deteriorate, getting worse with every passing year and each passing storm. Living in the home under a lifetime estate after her husband died several years ago, she said the roof was last replaced in late 1970s, and that since then, it has been a constant source of worry and stress – and disagreement over how best to fix it with her brother-in-law who co-owns the home. But now, thanks to A Brush With Kindness’ A Roof Overhead program, she doesn’t have to worry about it anymore.

How can I qualify for Habitat home repairs?
1) I own my home in Wayne County and it is my primary residence.
2) My home is in need of minor, exterior repairs and/or limited aging-in-place interior repairs.
3) I fall under the income limit, have the ability to pay, and am willing to pay toward the cost.

Habitat home repairs are performed by staff and volunteers as funds and time in the construction schedule allow. Ability to perform home repairs also depends on the extent and scope of work. Habitat reserves the right to deny applications even if income guidelines are met but the work requested is deemed to be too extensive for current capabilities. Habitat also reserves the right to deny applications if repairs would not have a significant impact on the home. Mobile homes are not typically covered in this program, but requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
